Geotechnical Soil Interpretation Reference

The geotechnical report is the single most important document for a trenchless design, but the parameters that matter to a driller are not always the ones highlighted in the log. This reference explains how to read boring logs and USCS soil classifications through an HDD lens — which properties drive drillability, hole stability, frac-out risk, and pull force.

It is grounded in ASTM D2487 (Unified Soil Classification System) and ASCE MOP 108.

What it helps you interpret

  • USCS soil classifications (ASTM D2487) for trenchless work
  • Boring-log parameters that drive HDD drillability and risk
  • Indicators of hole instability and frac-out potential
  • Linking soil data to pull-force and hydrofracture inputs
