Pipe Support Span & Spacing Analysis

Aboveground and temporarily supported pipe must not sag or overstress between its supports. This analysis returns the maximum allowable support span from the pipe’s self-weight plus contents, limited by both an allowable bending stress and an allowable mid-span deflection.

It follows the widely used MSS SP-69 and ASME B31.1 recommended support-spacing basis.

What it determines

  • Maximum support span limited by bending stress
  • Maximum support span limited by deflection
  • Governing (shorter) allowable span
  • Span sensitivity to pipe size, wall, and contents
