Soil Analysis

Pipeline Settlement Analysis

Trenchless installation removes and disturbs soil, and some ground-surface settlement above the bore is unavoidable. Where the alignment runs beneath roads, rail, structures, or utilities, that settlement has to be estimated and kept within tolerable limits. This calculator predicts the settlement trough from volume loss and soil conditions along the bore.

It applies the classic Peck (1969) empirical settlement-trough method within the ASCE MOP 108 framework.

What it estimates

  • Maximum settlement directly above the bore centerline
  • Width and shape of the settlement trough
  • Settlement at sensitive surface features along the route
  • Sensitivity to volume loss and depth of cover
